Common side effects
Itching, dryness, redness and flaking of the scalp are the most frequent complaints. They're often caused by propylene glycol in solutions — switching to a foam can help.
Temporary shedding in the first couple of months is common and usually settles.

Less common and serious side effects
Rarely, minoxidil can cause unwanted hair growth on the face, a fast or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, dizziness or swelling of the hands and feet. Stop using it and speak to a doctor or call NHS 111 if this happens.
